The Strawberry Festival just wouldn't be complete without our famous World's Largest Strawberry Shortcake! The famous Strawberry Shortcake started in 1931 by Munyan Bakery, and continued by the Shimanek's and Durlam's when they took over the bakery. Eventually, the duty of baking the cake was given to Safeway and Roth's, who took turns with the baking responsibilities. Traditionally the shortcake goes through the Grand Parade, and makes its way out to the Festival grounds. The reigning Strawberry Queen and her court are on hand to ceremonially "cut" the cake using one of our historic giant knives before the cake gets passed out to festival...

The Umatilla County Pioneer Picnic is an annual celebration founded in 1892 to honor the memory of the early settlers who helped forge and develop Umatilla County. The 2026 Pioneer Picnic will take place June 5th and 6th . Our 2026 Pioneer Queen and Parade Grand Marshal are Suzanne and Larry Coppock. Aaron Coppock was an Iowa farmer who went to the gold fields of California in 1849. He found gold and sent for his family, instructing his wife Marry to sell the farm, buy four stout oxen and drive their cattle west to join him. When they reached Jim Bridger’s trading post, he informed them feed was scarce and the cattle would starve if they went to California. They turned toward Oregon instead, settling near Clackamas six months later. The Coppock men traveled from Clackamas through Eastern Oregon in 1860 on their way to the Orofino, Idaho gold fields. The Astoria Scandinavian Midsummer Festival has been a North Coast Oregon tradition for six decades, held the third full weekend of June at the Clatsop County Fairgrounds. The 2027 festival marks its 60th anniversary, running June 18 through 20, with more than a dozen Nordic musical, dance and theater groups performing across the three days. Vendor booths sell handcrafts, Nordic imports and traditional Nordic foods, and a weekend wristband costs $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 to 12.

Last Thursday on Alberta Street in Portland, Oregon is an open street market for creatives and buskers. It happens 10 months a year on the last Thursday of the month. Last Thursdays in June, July and August the street is closed from 6-9 pm with 15 blocks (15th Ave.-30th Ave.) closed to traffic, hundreds of diverse arts and crafts vendors, art gallery opening parties, street performers and musicians, and other outside events.
