WaterFire Providence® is an independent, 501(c)3 nonprofit arts organization whose mission is to inspire Providence and its visitors by revitalizing the urban experience, fostering community engagement and creatively transforming the city by presenting WaterFire for all to enjoy. On September 1st, 2001, WaterFire was set alight for the 100th time. This collection of essays about WaterFire was written to celebrate the occasion. In 1997, WaterFire Providence expanded to 42 braziers, and attracted an estimated attendance of 350,000 people during thirteen lightings. Evans received the Renaissance Award from the City of Providence for his work as an artist and his role in revitalizing downtown Providence. The Federal Hill Commerce Association's 41st annual Galbani Columbus Weekend Festival runs October 9 through 12, 2026, along Atwells Avenue in Providence's Federal Hill neighborhood. More than 80 food, art and retail vendors set up alongside the La Cucina Galbani cooking stage, family games and amusement rides. Hours run 5 pm to midnight Friday, 11 am to midnight Saturday and Sunday, and 11 am to 8 pm Monday, with the street closed to traffic all four days.
