The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program provides eligible seniors with a card to purchase fresh, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs at participating farmers markets. Program eligibility and availability are determined by the Alabama Department of Agriculture. Some of the farmers at the Fairhope Farmers Market accept this card. Mobile Bay Makers Market is an open air artisan market in Fairhope, Alabama that has run since 2021, showcasing local makers, growers and small businesses at Hope Community. The market's planned September return has been paused while organizers look for a new location, so no dates are currently scheduled.
In the spirit of harvest season, the farming community of Barnwell hosts the annual Barnwell Community Day at the Historic School House turned Community Center, located at 13319 County Road 3. This admission free event is being hosted by the Barnwell Community Organization to raise awareness of the efforts to restore the historic 1918 schoolhouse, known as The Barnwell Community Center, and to show appreciation for everyone who has contributed and supported those efforts thus far. Event highlights include arts & crafts vendors, bounce houses, tractor displays, and face painting.
