Outlaw Square lies at the heart of Deadwood – a living and vibrant community with a continuous history that traces its roots back to America’s last great gold rush. The square was created because of a community-wide effort to build a local gathering space to accommodate public events. Historically, the City of Deadwood had a number of these public plazas, including a gazebo and outdoor concert venue on Sherman Street and Chautauqua Park on the top of McGovern Hill. But as the decades wore on, these spaces succumbed to age and redevelopment, and modern Deadwood has been without a public square. Until now. Construction of Outlaw Square began in the autumn of 2018. The 29th annual Festival of Cultures will take place on Saturday, June 20, at the Sioux Falls Coliseum. The event will begin at 11 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.

The 78th Annual Czech Days festival takes place June 17 through 19, 2027, in Tabor, South Dakota, a town of about 400 people that traces its Czech heritage to settlers who arrived as early as 1869. The three-day celebration of Czech culture, with traditional foods, music and dancing, draws as many as 10,000 visitors each year.

The community of Highmore holds Old Settlers' Weekend annually the third weekend in June. Its one of central South Dakota's longest running community celebrations! Saturday in the Park is a Canton Chamber of Commerce event at Jack Fox Park, part of the city's 2026 calendar marking Canton's 160th anniversary. It includes a parade, vendor booths, inflatables, face painting and a cookout near the senior center. Vendors register through the Chamber's own vendor registration form, and the Chamber also runs the weekly Canton Open Air Market at the same park on Thursday evenings through early August.

We are beyond excited for the 7th Annual South Dakota Chislic Festival which will be held on Saturday, July 26 at Freeman’s 40-acre Prairie Arboretum from 10AM to 9PM. The festival committees are busy preparing a chislic-day filled with food, beverages, activities, and entertainment for all ages. The SDCF will again have its own booth serving chislic. This year, we are excited the SDCF will be the provider of all alcohol at the festival, with proceeds directly supporting the festival infrastructure. You do not want to miss this event. The Brown County Fair runs August 10 through 16, 2026, at the Brown County Fairgrounds in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The week includes seven nights of grandstand entertainment plus free live music, the Dacotah Bank Stampede Rodeo, mutton busting, dairy and beef cattle barns, a stick horse contest, carnival rides and a kids zone.

The Turner County Fair, South Dakota's oldest running fair, takes place August 17 through 20, 2026, in Parker. The free gate, four day event features 4-H exhibits, a midway, commercial exhibits and specialty foods like lamb chislic, tri tip sandwiches, pork loin sandwiches and elephant ears, run by a 30 member volunteer board and more than 200 event volunteers.
