The running of the Slate Creek Relay, although sponsored by the Wellington Area Chamber of Commerce, involves over 150 volunteers, and the close coordination of various Wellington City, Sumner County, Wellington Township and many other significant contributors. The Great Race was initiated at the Slate Creek Depot in 1976.
