Since 1954, the Luling Watermelon Thump has been a proud summertime tradition honoring local growers, celebrating community spirit, and welcoming more than 30,000 visitors each year to Luling, Texas — the home of the Thump. What began as a celebration of local agriculture has grown into a cherished Texas tradition featuring championship melons, seed-spitting contests, parades, and live entertainment — just a few of the many attractions that make Thump weekend special. It’s more than a festival — it’s neighbors gathering, families making memories, and generations coming together to celebrate the sweet taste of summer. A tradition that has grown into one of Texas’ most unique and beloved festivals.
