Through our programs and initiatives, we are working towards building a stronger, more resilient community where everyone has the support and resources they need to lead healthy, fulfilling lives. With the help of our incredible volunteers, we deliver 800 food bags every week to children and families throughout Casper and the surrounding area. The location for the city of Cheyenne was chosen by chief surveyor Grenville M. Dodge on July 4, 1867. The chosen spot was at the banks of Crow Creek, a precious water source on the high plains. Dodge's team of surveyors was looking for a way to cross the Rocky Mountains that was both direct and not too steep. Dodge found just such a pass to the west of Crow Creek, and Cheyenne's importance to the railroad was quickly cemented. Cheyenne has had a close connection with the Union Pacific's passenger service from the time the first passenger train arrived in 1867 until Amtrak moved out of the city in 1979.
