The Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve (DNERR) offers a day of free family fun at the Blackbird Creek Fall Festival every October. Mark your calendar for the 2025 Blackbird Creek Fall Festival, set for Saturday, October 18. The Blackbird Creek Fall Festival fosters stewardship of the Delaware Bayshore by celebrating the richness of estuaries and Delaware’s cultural traditions at our beautiful scenic site at the Delaware National Estuarine Research Reserve. The festival is held annually on the third Saturday in October, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Blackbird Creek Reserve in Townsend. The annual festival offers a variety of activities each year. Some of the highlights of recent festivals:

The ladybug's local significance dates to 1973, when a Milford second-grade class successfully petitioned the Delaware legislature to name it the state's official bug.

The 6th annual Art Fest Art Fair takes place Sunday, April 26, 2026, in the Town of Whitehall at 801 Mapleton Avenue near Middletown, Delaware. The outdoor fair features local artists and craft vendors selling pottery, jewelry, woodwork and paintings, plus live music from Sam Smick, food trucks including Blue Hen BBQ and Sweet Josephine's, and a community block printing project called Colors of Love.

The 2027 celebration will be held on Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1, 2027. Friday evening launches the Dover Days Festival. This portion of the festival will begin at 5 p.m. and continue through 9 p.m. During this period, visitors can enjoy a wide range of food trucks from local vendors, giving you a taste of Kent County’s best food.
