It began as a cooperative effort between markets in Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol. The people instrumental for its beginning were Marsh Beckner, Walter Blalock, and Harry Fain. This association was called F.A.R.M., which stood for Tri-Cities Farmers' Association For Retail Marketing. The Johnson City Farmer's Market was located behind St. Johns Episcopal Church on North Roan Street in Johnson City, TN. As of 2016, the Johnson City Farmers Market is now located at The Pavilion at Founders Park. It is open early May through October on Saturdays from 8:00am - 1:00pm.
