The Old Capitol Farmers Market has operated in downtown Springfield since 1999, overseen by Downtown Springfield, Inc. with support from HSHS St. John's Hospital. Recognized as the largest downstate producer-only market in Illinois, it has been voted Best Farmers Market, Best Public Art and Best Free Entertainment, drawing farms and local makers who sell fresh food directly to shoppers.
